Otago Community Trust has elected to retain the investment approach that was put in place after the review, but with a separate asset consultant in charge.
The $315 million charitable foundation is understood to have switched its consultancy business to Mercer, replacing incumbent Russell Investments.
Mercer also advised the over $660 million Rātā Foundation (previously known as the Canterbury Community Trust), and Otago was the only remaining Russell client in the field.
Replacing an implemented product with another is much easier than creating a new multi-manager portfolio from scratch under the advice of another consultant.
Otago Trust has been with Russell since at least 2017, and the fund reports a 0.3% return for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022.
In late 2021, the fund also embarked on a significant shift to Carbon Light exposure in its international equity portfolio.
