Of the 15 players, 6 women and 9 men will represent Oceania.

Seven of the nine are clerics, and only two lay people from Oceania are present.

All participants have the right to vote.

At the beginning of the Synod process, two New Zealand women, Mrs. Anne Dickinson, Cardinal John Dew’s assistant pastor, and Dr. cooperated in the formulation of

It should also be noted that there appears to be little room for representation from Fiji, Tonga and Western Samoa, all of which contributed significant input to the final document from the “Continent of Oceania”.

In fact, Fiji hosted the final stage of Synod submission by the Catholic Bishops’ Union of Oceania.

However, Anthony Randazzo, Bishop of Broken Bay, New South Wales, of the Federation of Catholic Bishops’ Conferences of Oceania (FCBCO) expressed confidence that 10 non-bishops from the region would participate in the forthcoming conference.

“Considering that there are about 20 countries in each corner of the globe, our region stands out as one of the most diverse regions in the world,” Randazzo said.

“This diversity enriches the Church of Oceania, and I am sure it will contribute greatly to the deliberations of the Synod in Rome.”

Earlier this year, Pope Francis invited each of the world’s seven “continents” to appoint 20 persons who have actively contributed to the local efforts of the Synod.

From the list of candidates, Pope Francis personally selected ten representatives from each region.

Pope’s representative in Australia is former Archbishop Apostolic of New Zealand Charles BalboArchbishop’s Hall Novatus Rugambwa Serves as Apostolic Minister to New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

Attending the Conference of the Catholic Bishops’ Union of Oceania was Sir Nathalie Becard, Undersecretary of the Conference of Bishops.

Originally a Synod, Pope Francis opened its doors to lay men and women, and the Vatican now calls it simply the Synod. Synod 2021 – 2024.

As October approaches, expectations are high for the Synod, which will bring together clerics, theologians and lay people from around the world to address relevant issues facing the contemporary Catholic Church.
