Especially in the era of COVID-19, you need to keep your New Year’s resolution to take care of yourself.

According to experts, wearing a mask, keeping a safe distance from others, and washing your hands frequently will continue to be important in 2021. But don’t forget to prioritize a healthy lifestyle that improves overall health and quality of life and helps prevent cancer. At the Rutgers Cancer Institute in New Jersey.

The Institute provides the following tips:

Eat a healthy diet and pay attention to your weight.

  • To prevent cancer, the American Cancer Research Association and the American Cancer Association recommend maintaining a healthy weight, staying active, and eating a healthy diet. Rich in whole grains, vegetables, fruits and beans, lean and processed meats, fast foods, fats, starches and sugar-rich processed foods are minimized. Avoid sweet drinks.
  • Cutting alcohol reduces the risk of many cancers, including breast cancer.

Regular exercise. It has many benefits for physical and mental well-being.

  • Current guidelines recommend moderate intensity for at least 150-300 minutes per week, or intense aerobic exercise for 75-150 minutes per week.
  • Muscle strengthening activities should also be included.
  • We do not recommend sitting for long periods of time watching TV or using a computer.
  • Find fun ways to stay active, such as online exercise classes, walking or jogging in your neighborhood.

Stop smoking.

Getting preventive care is an important step in managing your health.

  • This includes cancer screening that can detect the cancer before it spreads.
