Dubai [UAE], July 27 (ANI): In the latest update of the ICC men’s ODI ranking, Indian newcomer Shikhar Dhawan climbed to 13th place in the standings and hitter Shreyas Iyer also climbed 20 places to climb to 54th place after second ODI match against West Indies in three match ODI series In the thrilling first ODI match between India and West Indies, Shikhar Dhawan gave a winning performance scoring 97 points in 99 balls. His surprising blow also earned him the Man of Match award. The opening helped India score a whopping 308 points.
Shreyas Iyer scored half a century with 54 runs on 57 balls. Yet another monumental first-order performance from the Indian team helped them put on a huge total that the West Indies couldn’t chase. Pacer Mohammed Siraj also moved up to the top 100 of the rankings.
Pakistan rookie Abdullah Shafique and Sri Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya continue to rise in the ICC men’s test player rankings after stunning performances in the first test of their series of ICC test world championships in Galle.
Abdullah, who was named Player of the Match for his second inning of 160 and amassed 720 points in his first six tests, advanced 23 slots to reach 16th place with Pakistan’s record of 671 rating points. A Pakistani hitter’s previous record after six tests was Saeed Ahmed’s 614 rating points, and only two batters have ever had more points after six tests: Sunil Gavaskar (692) and Donald Bradman (687).
Left arm spinner Jayasuriya, whose 21 wickets rank him third in terms of most wickets after two tests, has climbed 11 places to 44th place with 481 rating points, the fourth highest of any player in bowls after two tests. Narendra Hirwani (519), Alec Bedser (500) and Bob Massie (494) scored higher after two tests.
Pakistani captain Babar Azam’s scores of 119 and 55 see him overtake Australian Steve Smith to reach a career-high third place with a career best score of 874 points. Babar is currently # 1 in both the ODI and T20I and remains the only hitter in the top 10 of all three lists.
Fast-paced bowler Shaheen Afridi is another Pakistani player to be gained in the latest weekly update, climbing one place to a third-best in his career after grabbing four wickets in the first innings. Hasan Ali and Yasir Shah gained one spot each to reach 13th and 32nd position respectively.
Sri Lanka Dinesh Chandimal gained 11 slots to reach 18th after scores of 76 and 94 not eliminated, while Kusal Mendis and Oshada Fernando also made progress in the test standings.
In the ICC men’s ODI player rankings, South African Quinton de Kock climbed two places to fourth after his 92 not eliminated in the third match against England which was washed out by rain, finishing the series on the 1- 1. Fast English pitcher David Willey rose to 23rd position among bowlers.
For the West Indies, rookie Shai Hope climbed three places to 12th after his valiant 115 in the second game, while fast-paced pitcher Alzarri Joseph earned two places to reach 16th after grabbing two wickets each in both matches.
In the ICC Men’s T20I Player Ranking, New Zealand players Glenn Phillips and fast pitcher Lockie Ferguson have made significant progress, as have Irish bowlers Mark Adair and Joshua Little, who are in 43rd and 44th place respectively. . (ANI)
