Russell Hill and Carol Clay: A 55-year-old man accused of killing a Victorian camper | Victoria

A 55-year-old Melbourne man was charged with the murder of Victorian campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay.

Crime scenes have been established in the alpine regions of the state, and police are focused on finding the bodies of the pair.

A man from Caroline Springs was charged with two murders Thursday night. He will meet the Magistrates’ Court on Sale on Friday morning.

Bob Hill, an assistant commissioner for Victorian police, said investigators found a crime scene in the alpine area Thursday morning.

“We will identify a particular area and establish a search boundary within a few days. We hope to find the remains of Mr. Hill and Mr. Clay,” he said in Melbourne on Thursday night. I told the group.

“This arrest is a testament to the months of dedication and tireless efforts of the detectives of the missing unit, but the investigation is not over yet.

“Forensics specialists will start searching there in the next few days. We hope we can find the deceased and offer closures to our families.”

Hill condolences to his family, saying, “The last 20 months have been a very difficult time for them.”

The accused has been detained since he was arrested on Monday night.

Specialized police stormed and arrested at a remote campsite at Arbuckle Junction, 280 km northeast of Melbourne.

A 55-year-old four-wheel drive vehicle has been confiscated, but police have not yet tracked his trailer.

Earlier Thursday, the chief police officer of the Victorian Police said the detective believed that the silver trailer was sold between March and July last year.

Chief Commissioner Shane Patton spoke on 3AW radio and urged anyone who bought a similar radio at the time to come forward.

Hill and Clay last heard on March 20, 2020 while camping in the Victorian Alps.

Hill left Doruan’s house a day ago and picked up clay from her house in Pakenham with a white Toyota Land Cruiser.

On March 20, an experienced outdoor man, Hill called over a high-frequency radio that he was in the Wonangatta Valley.

Clay, a former president of the Victorian Women’s Association, told her friends that she would leave and return on March 28 or 29.

Investigators were told that the couple were camping together on the Wonnangatta River near the Wonnangatta Campground.

Campers found Hill’s car destroyed by a fire on March 21 at a campsite near the Dry River Creek Truck. Since then, this pair has not been seen or heard.
