Release of datasets related to “Rum Raid”

Police released two sets of ‘ram raid’ data here.

The first set is text-mined operational crime statistics, designed to report on questions about the volume of past and current “robbery raids” and to allow comparisons to other types of crime. Initially included only retail “Rum Raid”, it was retroactively expanded to include both retail and commercial “Rum Raid” data in January 2023.

The second set is independently reviewed file program data created with the ultimate goal of determining whether a retail store is eligible for support through a retail crime prevention program. This data holds reviewed instances going back to January 1, 2021.

The police crime code is based on criminal law and has no specific offense for “assault”. This means compiling information specific to this “assault case”. Police have text mined data and search and review files.

Assistant Commissioner Bruce O’Brien says that “assault” doesn’t have its own crime code, making automatic collation of statistical data difficult.

“Trying to measure something specific without categories is always difficult and complicated.

“But we came up with two solutions, both of which work for specific purposes.

Data comes from both live data sets. Because operational information is subject to update, individual figures may vary depending on the source of the data.

“Police operational data is always live data and can change as an investigation progresses. From an operational perspective, this is not a problem. placement selection and research.

“Our focus is on getting employees the information they need to do their jobs – to prevent crime and hold criminals accountable. We are confident that the data we have is supporting our people in doing just that.

“At the same time, it is important to recognize that some of the most complex social problems cannot be solved by the police alone. We know we do not have all the answers, so we work with partners and communities. I promise to.”
