Dawn services across Australia on Anzac Day

CANBERRA, April 25 (Xinhua) — Tens of thousands of Australians gathered before sunrise on Tuesday to pay tribute to those who fought and died for their country.

Dawn services were held across the country to honor the contributions of Australian defense personnel.

Tuesday marked the 108th anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli during World War I.

Since then, April 25th has been celebrated as Anzac Day in both countries to commemorate all those who have died in war, conflict and peacekeeping.

In Canberra, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese held a memorial service at the Australian War Memorial and said it was important to remember the contributions of those unable to return home.

“This is a collective act of remembrance, reflection and gratitude, performed by and dedicated to multiple generations of Australians,” he said.

Following the service, Anzac Day marches are held throughout the day in all major Australian cities.
