Kate Gallaway spent her first night 17 months after the pandemic first began.
A 54-year-old presenter at Good Morning Britain said he found it “strange” to leave his sick husband, Derek Draper, at home.
She said it was “very exciting” but “very strange” as she enjoyed the night at the West End opening of the Palace Theater’s Wonderville.
The magic and fantasy show will star mind leader Chris Cox, British catgut magician Josephine Lee, and record-breaking Magic Circle triple champion Edward Hilsom.
Initially, it was postponed because a member of the production team tested positive for Covid-19.
At the event, an ITV presenter told PA news agency about her night out and confessed that it was the first time in over a year.
Kate said: “I’m very excited because it’s my first time-out since February 2020. It’s a date that happened because it was supposed to happen a few weeks ago but didn’t.“ Let’s do our best ”– it’s very exciting. “
Star added that it’s sad that no 53-year-old husband has yet recovered from the effects of Covid-19.
Derek was infected with Covid in March 2020 and fell into a coma for about 13 weeks.
Kate continued PA. “He’s a big fan of magic, so it was very strange to leave him tonight, but it’s impossible at this point, so I’ll say next time and see him when he comes back.”
She said she would talk about how she wanted to support art after Covid caused havoc:
“I think it was really hard for many industries. Given how hard it is for art, I think I’m worried about performers who think it was very hard,” she said.
“But of course it’s all else. It’s the costume maker, the bar worker, the theater cleaner.
“There is an entire group of people left unworked, and for the rest of us I think we missed the opportunity to have something to keep us away from ourselves and escape. “
Earlier this week, Kate’s former co-star Piers Morgan said Derek was “still effectively in a coma,” and “people don’t know half of it.”
