An investigation began after an 82-year-old woman was pronounced dead in a New York nursing home, and was found breathing in a funeral home three hours later.

The woman was said to have died at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the Water’s Edge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Port Jefferson, Long Island.

Suffolk County Police said the woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to the OB Davis Funeral Home in Miller Place at 1:30 p.m.

She was found breathing at 2:09 pm.

A 66-year-old woman who was receiving hospice care was declared dead on January 3 at the Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Urbandale, officials said.

The woman was placed in a body bag and taken to the funeral home and crematorium in Ankeny, where officials found her breathing and called 911.

She was returned to hospice care and died on January 5.
