The two drug dealers begged for their lives and desperately tried to escape from the locked toolbox before sinking into the lagoon. Queensland The court heard.
On the first day of the Supreme Court’s trial in Brisbane, four men pleaded not guilty to “breathtakingly evil” murder.
Stou Daniels, Davy Malu Junior Taiao, Trent Michael Thrupp and Waylon Ngaketo Cowan Walker denied the killings of Cory Breton and Iuliana Triscaru in southern Brisbane on January 24, 2016. Daniels, Taiao and Thrupp have also been accused of torturing the pair.
Slap pleaded guilty to Breton and Triscal’s manslaughter, but the crown refused the complaint.
Prosecutor David Meredith said all involved were drug dealers and users.
The court was told on Tuesday that the motive came from a photo of smiling Daniels taken on CCTV on January 22, two days before the murder.
Convenience store owners who sold burner phones and bought drugs from Breton asked where they procured the drugs and were called “islanders,” the jury said.
The owner then sent a CCTV image of Daniels to Breton asking if “it was him.” Breton replied: “Yes, that’s him.”
The court reported that Daniels became cautious when talking about the photo and was convinced he was set up.
“The prosecution says all these motives were Daniels’ suspicion of Corey Breton,” Meredith said.
The victims were seduced, tortured, assaulted, tied up with tape and cable ties and then placed in a toolbox by Kingston’s forces, the prosecutor told the jury in his opening remarks.
The box was reportedly placed behind ute and abandoned in Scrubby Creek Lagoon, south of Brisbane. More than two weeks later, on February 11, police divers found the body in the box heavy with concrete blocks and tires.
The body was so disassembled that doctors could not determine the cause of death. You may only have died from suffocation or drowning.
“The evidence seems to be that they were still alive when they were put into scrub creek,” Meredith said. “According to witnesses, they were still yelling and kicking the toolbox when they left the apartment.”
The pay camera captured an image of the utility with the toolbox fixed to the Logan Motorway tray at around 8:50 pm, before the toolbox was dumped into the lagoon.
“If these things are true, this killing is very barbaric,” the prosecutor said.
“These people were put in a toolbox and stayed there for a few hours-obviously afraid of what would happen to them. They were taken to a stream and drowned … it breathes. It’s so evil that you swallow it. “
Defendant’s lawyer urged the jury to remain open, saying that the main witnesses to the crown case had mental health problems with a history of drug and alcohol abuse.
A four-week trial continues.
