Netherlands Plans to Curb Chip Exports to China in Deal with US – Report
Bloomberg reports that a deal to curb Dutch chip exports could come as early as next month.

Bloomberg News reported Wednesday that Dutch authorities are planning to implement new restrictions on the export of semiconductor equipment to China.
The report was released last month after Dutch Trade Minister Liesche Schleinemach said the Netherlands was in talks with the US government about new export restrictions on semiconductor equipment to China.
Under pressure from the United States, the Dutch government has since 2018 ordered ASML Holdings NV, the country’s largest semiconductor equipment maker, to take the maximum amount of money due to what it sees as “dual-use” equipment with possible military applications. We do not allow licenses to ship advanced equipment to China.
ASML is a leading manufacturer of semiconductor equipment with sales of over €2 billion to Chinese customers in 2021.
An agreement on Dutch limits on chip exports could be reached as early as next month, Bloomberg said, adding that it was unclear what the new limits would mean for sales of ASML to China.
China is also the Netherlands’ second largest trading partner after Germany, according to the Dutch statistics agency CBS.
In early October, the Biden administration announced a series of drastic export controls, including measures to cut China off from certain semiconductor chips made anywhere in the world using U.S. tools.
The Dutch Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment. The White House National Security Council declined to comment.
