Measuring against the stopwatch doesn’t change anything – it looks like it cuts more dashes.
In other words, it is an updated version of the fastest model of the Mini.
Announced overnight and scheduled to be released in New Zealand in the third quarter of this year, the latest John Cooper Works Street Racer has the same power and performance figures as its predecessor.
Don’t consider it a disappointment. Underneath the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces very good 170kW and 320Nm with front wheels via either a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed torque converter auto. Drive It takes 6.3 seconds for the manual and 6.1 seconds for the auto to hit 0-100kmh. It’s fast enough for hot hatches, isn’t it?
Refreshing is a simple vehicle for BMW-owned manufacturer’s engine tuners, but at the same time it certainly keeps the styling department busy enough.
There are numerous upgrades to the look. In particular, the entire front fascia has been completely redesigned.
There is an impressive matte black grille with an impressive hexagonal design, contrasting with a new red stripe along the center, indicating that it is not a regular mini.
The tough-looking body-colored air ducts are located under the grille on either side of the license plate mounting points to provide cold air to the braking system. There is another set of angular air openings to cool the powertrain.
At the rear is a new ultra-aggressive diffuser finished in a matt black shade that blends into the finishing edge of the flared rear wheel arch.
The square in the middle of this innovative diffuser is a set of 85mm stainless steel sports tailpipes with a contrasting chrome finish.
To slow down the hot hatch, Mini has redesigned the Bremdo provisioned braking system. The 4-piston front brake caliper is also painted red and adorned with the John Cooper Works logo.
The 2021 model also offers a new lightweight John Cooper Works alloy wheel that can be used in 17-inch or 18-inch sizes.
A custom chassis tune for the suspension is included as standard with JCW, and as an option, the purchaser can check the Mini’s adaptive suspension box.
These electronically controlled dampers adapt to road conditions in just 50-100 ms for a more dynamic ride. You can also choose from a variety of modes, such as “lounge” mode and “sports” mode, depending on the driver’s mood. In other works, the switch is pressed to give varying degrees of impact. But still, it’s not advertised as a limousine, right?
Inside, the updated hatch features a number of new features, including a redesigned central instrument cluster and an 8.8-inch touchscreen display.
Mini’s infotainment software has also been updated to benefit from a revised display that makes the audio, navigation, communications, and interface with the app system more intuitive.
JCW is also equipped with a number of safety features as standard, such as adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function and parking assist.
