Tim Allen breaks the silence on Lightyear and shares what he really thinks about the spinoff of the toy story

We all know Buzz Lighter as the lovely space guard who collaborates with Woody in her many Toy story adventures, but what exactly inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy line? Well, you can find it now, as the solo film Buzz Lightyear called it Light year is out, but it stars Marvel actor Chris Evans as the title character. A Buzz Lightyear movie without Tim Allen? If you are curious how the the Santa Claus actor feels about that, he has decided to break his silence on the subject.
Light year is all about the space guard who inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy line. So it’s understandable why Pixar decided to go for another voice actor for the role of the young test pilot. As for how Tim Allen feels about that decision, he countered ExtraTV that while he would have liked to have participated in a standalone Buzz Lightyear story, he knew Light year would have nothing to do with the Toy story movies:
I stayed out here because it has nothing to do with it [the original films]. We’re talking about it [a standalone story] a long time ago. It came on one of the sessions. I said, ‘What a fun movie that would be.’ We’ve talked about it. But the copper that made the first four films is not this. It’s a brand new team that really had nothing to do with the first films.
After watching the record-breaking trailer for Light year, you can not help but hear how similar Chris Evans’ voice sounds to that of Tim Allen. With the same level of integrity and strength de Home improvement actor brought up in his voice when playing Buzz Lightyear, it seems that the MCU star is doing a great job in honor of that, and they were not easy to fill shoes. The iconic line “To infinity and beyond” should say was a challenge for Evans to make sure he did not say it as an imitation. Happy, a toy of his famous Captain America character helped Evans prep for the role of Buzz Lightyear. When his younger brother delivered the voice of the MCU action figure, he got an idea of what the voice should sound like. I would say that his preparation paid off well.
Tim Allen continued to talk about the expectations he originally had for a Buzz Lightyear spinoff, as well as his understanding that this film has nothing to do with the Buzz we know:
I thought it was a live action. When they said they did the live action, I thought it meant real people, and not an animated thing. And really, like Hanks and I [have said], there really is no Buzz without Woody, so I’m not sure what to do with the idea. I’m a plot guy. If this was done in 1997, it would seem like a great adventure story, and as I see it, it’s not a great adventure story. It’s a wonderful story. It just seems to have no connection with the toys.
While it may not seem like Tim Allen has any hard feelings for Pixar about choosing another voice for Buzz, the opposite can be said for The Middle‘s Patricia Heaton, who had a more brutal reaction. She felt it was a big mistake for Pixar to go with a different voice actor than the man who created the Buzz Lightyear role. After Light year director Angus MacLane explained his re-casting reasoning because he wanted a more serious and less “goofy” voice for the story he wanted to tell, Heaton still felt that Hollywood was wrong in removing “the one element he wants to see” [the film]. ”
Even though Tim Allen will not be returning soon as Buzz Lightyear, there is no reason to feel bad for him, as he is coming up with many projects. He comes back with his in the store Home improvement co-star Richard Karn and DYIer April Wilkerson for History Channel’s More power, where this trio will put some tools to the test. The 69-year-old actor will also be reprising his role of Scott Calvin aka Santa Claus, in The Sinterklaasintsjesa miniseries that will be available to watch with a Disney + subscription. If you’re curious to see how Chris Evans performs as Buzz Lightyear, you can soar into space as you capture Light year now in theaters.
