Olympic bronze medalist David Niika has been ruled out of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games due to injury.
The 26-year-old suffered bone marrow bruising in his left hand after recent matches in Australia and will be out of action for at least six weeks.
“I’m absolutely gutted to miss the Games,” Nyika said.
“I still haven’t quite got my head around it. It’s always an honor to compete for New Zealand and I was really looking forward to trying to win a third gold in Birmingham.”
Meanwhile, boxer Emile Richardson has been added to the squad to compete in the U75kg category.
The New Zealand middleweight champion hails from the Bulls and says he can’t wait to get in the ring in Birmingham.
“There’s only one goal and that’s to win the gold medal,” Richardson said.
“I’m really looking forward to being at such a top event and competing against some of the best athletes in the world.”
Boxing at the Commonwealth Games will begin on July 29 and finish on August 7, with bouts taking place at the National Exhibition Centre.
