Fisher Funds has been reported as the successful client of KiwiWealth.

According to BusinessDesk Fisher Funds Jarden has won the race to acquire the fund management company originally founded by Gareth Morgan.

It is KiwiSaver’s biggest acquisition and joins Fisher’s other clients including Huljich, TOWER and First NZ.

The deal means Fisher will become the default supplier, after losing that position in last year’s review.

The sale is the latest release by Kiwi Group Holdings following the sale of its insurance business to nib and its online investment platform, Hatch, to FNZ.

Following the sale of the Kiwi property KGH will be left with Kiwibank and NZ Home Loans.

According to BusinessDesk, Fisher plans to incorporate the work into his current duties.

There is much concern in the financial services industry about job losses.

Act director David Seymour has weighed in on the possibility of Fisher becoming a default supplier again.

“Generally speaking, I want to be able to buy and sell at the best price and to the highest bidder, but I just doubt if the Government, in the case of Kiwi Wealth, should not ask yourself what kind of customer they want for something that is typical KiwiSaver,” he told NBR.

According to BusinessDesk, the Kiwi Wealth brand will disappear.

Fisher Funds owns the majority of the Taranaki Community Trust through the Toi Foundation, with Hong Kong international investor TA Associates as a 34% shareholder.

According to Morningstar Fisher, it is the fourth largest KiwiSaver provider with $6.945 billion in funds under management as at March 31. Kiwi Wealth is next with funds under management of $6.80 billion.
