Extension of firearms licenses for those most affected by cyclones

People with expired firearms licenses in areas affected by Cyclone Hale and Gabriel have been given more time to renew their licenses.

Angela Brazier, Executive Director of Te Tari Pūreke – Firearms Safety Authority, said many people in the cyclone-affected areas are suffering great hardships. This is a temporary but necessary extension to allow affected firearm licensees more time to renew their licenses.

This extension applies to firearms licenses, dealer licenses, and endorsements of owners whose address for licensing purposes is located in areas affected by the cyclone and subject to the declaration of a national emergency from January 10 to March 14, 2023. Applies only to comments. Regions are Auckland and Northland. , Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Tairawhiti, Hawke’s Bay, Tararua and Hauraki districts.

The extension applies to anyone who has not applied for a new license before January 10th and whose license has expired after January 11th. You must apply for a new license or authorization by 5:00 PM on August 31, 2023.

Brazier suggests that Te Tari Pūreke’s analysis suggests that up to 2,800 license holders may need an extension.
