The driving force behind the unemployment of new fitness ventures

In a week, the mothers of two Nicola McLeans faced the stress of unexpected unemployment in major surgery, gym management, and moving home.

But with incredible support and encouragement from friends and family, Nicola and her husband Ross McLean decided to put this behind them, take the problem in their hands and start a business. rice field.

Nicola says she was shocked and traumatized by a six-week long recovery, unemployment, and mortgage.

The stress was incredible. I didn’t know how to pay the invoice. “

The week after the hysterectomy, Nicola was offered an interview about the job she applied for while she was recovering in bed.

She asked a friend to take her to an interview in the office at the top of the stairs.

Sewn and in pain, she sweated and arrived with a red face.

“I wasn’t in a normal state of mind with the amount of painkillers, and I was just dripping with sweat. Looking back, it’s no wonder I couldn’t get a job!” Nicola laughs.

After weeks and months, Nicola began to feel really depressed. She is unmotivated, loses all her beliefs in herself, and states that she is “really depressed.”

“I was disillusioned with the fitness industry as a whole, so I thought it was really over.”

Friends Rally

But Nicola’s friends and family gathered around her and she got over it and told her that these feelings would disappear.

Nicola’s friend Lean was the last push needed to take this opportunity to realize her dream of starting her own boutique gym.

“You need to open this gym,” Lean said. “So there is a place where I can walk to meet you and feel welcome!”

Supported by two friends who invested in Nicola and Ross, they set out to build a facility called “Thistlefit” in honor of the Scottish heritage. They planned to set themselves apart from the standard gyms that worked or managed both for the past decade.

“When we dreamed of what this istle fit would be, we always wanted to be able to interact with our members,” says Nicola. “We want to have something for everyone and build a community.”

If you’re shy or scared of a regular gym, you’ll want to walk the front door and feel welcome. “

Nicola goes on to say, “It’s important for us that everyone feels they are part of it.”

Her face brightens as Nicola begins to explain her new fitness facility and what they can offer to its members.

It’s special to see someone very passionate about their work, especially in the face of adversity.
