Couriers were the most sought after job in 2020 as retailers turned to fast third-party delivery companies to meet the demand for online orders.

Last year, delivery courier companies averaged 188,000 vacancies each month, according to new data from Quadrotech.

This reflects a surge in online orders throughout the year, with online grocery sales doubling last month’s record high in December, according to Nielsen’s latest figures.

Analyzing job listings from Adzuna and determining the highest vacancy growth rate of the year, Quadrotech believes that courier companies will continue to be the most sought after jobs this year.

The role of sales has also increased significantly, with retailers focusing on continuing closed transactions and seeing an average of 110,000 vacancies each month.

Major supermarkets like Amazon and pureplay online retailers have typically doubled the size of their distribution networks this year to meet demand, but some have turned to third-party companies like Deliveroo and Uber Eats. increasing.

Deliveroo, which has become famous for offering takeaway food, has partnered with 16 major UK retailers over the past 12 months, including Aldi, Co-op, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s.
