Injured illegal traveler found and rescued from Whakanui Track
An injured tramp was airlifted from the Whakanui Track near the Lower Hutt suburb of Wainuiomata.

An illegal traveler was found injured on the Whakanui truck in Lower Hutt on Sunday evening and flown to hospital.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter said the illegal tourist was found with minor injuries around 7pm on a steep, wooded section of the trail.
They were able to be flown in from the Wainuiomata stadium and were admitted to Wellington Hospital in stable condition on Sunday evening.
The Whakanui Track is marked as an advanced track on the DOC website and runs from the Lower Hutt suburb of Wainuiomata to the Orongorongo River Valley.
