Democrats broke silence about the attack in a statement Sunday, saying the husband’s condition “continues to improve.”

“Our children, grandchildren and I are heartbroken and traumatized by the life-threatening attack on our Pop. Thank you for the life-saving medical care.”

Intruder David DePap reportedly broke into the couple’s home in San Francisco around 2:30 a.m. looking for speakers in the American home.

Police said officers were called to the house for a “health check” and upon arrival found both men with hammers.

The suspect then pulled the hammer away from Pelosi and used it to “violently attack” Pelosi before being attacked by officers.

At one point, the suspect sought out Democratic leaders yelling, “Where’s Nancy? Where’s Nancy?”

San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said at a news conference Friday night that the attack on Pelosi at his San Francisco home was “deliberate.”

“This is not a random act. This was intentional. And it is wrong.”

Scott declined to comment further on possible motives for the assault, saying an investigation was ongoing.

The President of the United States previously echoed the police chief’s comments, saying the assault appeared to be directed at the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.

He quickly denounced the attack on Mr Pelosi as “despicable”, and the attack on the House Speaker’s husband and United States Capitol Riot.

Speaking at an event in Philadelphia on Friday night, he addressed reports that the perpetrators repeated “the same chant” he heard during the Jan. 6, 2021 riots.

“Regardless of what your politics are, everyone with a conscience needs to be clear and unequivocal against violence in our politics.

Depapu, 42, has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, robbery, and several other felonies.

He is expected to make a full recovery.
