From emergency motel to dream home for a family of four

Kisa Vaoga hopes her new home will be the beginning of a new life, one day becoming a judge.

This week, the mother of two children moved into her new home in Taita with her partner Jaiden Ah-Waihi and children Leiloa, 5, and Jhavis, 9.

Vaoga, who spent her time in motels after living with her mother, is delighted to have found a suitable permanent home for her children. “It feels like home,” she says.

Her new home – part of a 19-unit housing development called Te Ara o Takapu Taita – will be owned by Urban Plus Limited, an organization controlled by the Hut City Council, social assistance agency Kahungunu Whanau Services, and Waiwetu-based iwi Te It is a joint project of Runanganui o.
