Electronic stability control is standard across the Kushaq range – a first for the segment in India – while other standard or optional auxiliary functions include multi-collision braking, hill-hold assist, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera and tire pressure monitoring.

Up to six airbags are available, although front curtain airbags and side curtains seem to be limited to the option list.

The absence of adaptive cruise control and lane assist, forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking are out of step with European Skodas, but if their absence means it won’t achieve the five-star crash test score that all other Skodas sold here have, it will too. not necessarily a bad score. It’s just the new rules; simply, any car without AEB alone is excluded from the five-star sector of the Euro (NCAP) and Australasian (ANCAP) New Car Assessment Program.

With regard to crash testing? It has yet to happen somewhere. Past history suggests that the odds of it getting a score from ANCAP relies on it also selling in Australia (yes, though that agency is well funded by Kiwi tax dollars). The prospect of that is not mentioned.

The car’s design is derived from a 2020 concept, Vision IN, and delivers straighter, more upright proportions than Skoda’s other soft-roaders. Furthermore, it carries all of the brand’s current design trademarks.

The model was recently upgraded to a 10-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but as with Fabia, the speedometer and tachometer are analog rather than displayed as a digital display.

Some other international brands have found India difficult. For example, Ford decided to sell his company there last year; a major effort made up of several factories – now split between domestic brands – that once supplied the small EcoSport crossover to NZ.

However, Skoda seems to be completely at home. It plans to be the dominant European automaker in India by 2030 and appears to have made major investments in factories and products.

The Kushaq and Slavia, which refers to as a medium sedan, will be delivered under a plan called ‘India 2.0’. The idea of ​​cars made exclusively in and, until the export idea was floated, ‘for’ India resonates well with the domestic scene. Both cars are a gift to domestic industries with many talents and have high localization regarding their component procurement; 95 percent of the parts of the Slavia are produced in India.
