Hundreds of liters of oil spill at Invercargill roundabout

The oil spill, estimated to be hundreds of liters in size, disrupted traffic on a major road in Invercargill.

A spokeswoman said the New Zealand Fire and Rescue Service (FENZ) was called to the spill at 9:35am near a roundabout at Elles Road and Tweed Street.

The spill also extended to Elles Rd and was estimated at hundreds of liters.

“That’s quite a spill.”

A fire brigade was dispatched, working with police to partially close the roundabout and hose the oil out.

A council was also expected at the scene.

The cause of the spill was unknown.

A police spokesman said police became aware of the spill around 9:40 a.m. and there was a problem affecting roundabout traffic.
