Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta today announced the appointment of the New Zealand Head of Mission. they are:
· Richard Prendergast as Ambassador to Brazil
· Felicity Rocksburg as Consul General of New Caledonia
· Bernie Riley as Saudi Arabian Ambassador
Prendergast was a career diplomat, stationed in the United States and Malaysia, and director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) of the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Bamiyan, Afghanistan.
“New Zealand and Brazil have worked closely on a variety of international issues, including world trade, international security and climate change,” said Nanaia Mahuta.
Roxburgh has worked as a diplomat in New York, Poland and Hong Kong, leveraging his experience with the Asia New Zealand Foundation.
“New Zealand enjoys a warm and constructive relationship with New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Wallis and Futuna. Through the Pacific Islands Forum, we work closely on important regional issues such as climate change and security. We are working together, “said Nanaia Muffta.
Riley is an experienced diplomat and most recently the Chief Trade Negotiator within the MFAT. He has previously represented New Zealand’s Ambassador to Cairo, Deputy Secretary of State for Tehran, and the World Trade Organization in Geneva.
“New Zealand maintains a long-standing relationship with Saudi Arabia, one of the most important economic partners in the Middle East,” said Nanaia Mahuta.
