Visit the UK’s first step-free art trail this summer – Enable Magazine

Evenbreak and Whizz-Kidz have teamed up with Wild in Art to create Britain’s first step-free, wheelchair inclusive art trail. Launched in June, Morph’s Epic Art Adventure is on until August and will start conversations surrounding the accessibility issues of UK infrastructure.

Morphs Epic Art Adventure, the UK’s first step-free art trail, is coming to London this summer. Sponsored by Evenbreak, a non-profit job board for disabled people, the project hopes to show the public what an inclusive world would look like for wheelchair users.

Iconic

Running from 19 June till 20 August this year (2023), the trail is free, and people of all ages are encouraged to join.

A trail of life-size Morph statues will travel through central London and pass the city’s iconic landmarks, including the Tate Modern, St. Pauls and the Tower of London.

A trail map and app are available to help the public navigate London’s famous streets and unlock a series of rewards and facts as they go.

The event creators hope that the public will learn more from the trail about the social and physical barriers wheelchair users face so that they can help implement change.

Around 75,000 young people currently use a wheelchair in the UK, and the infrastructure is not accessible enough for them.

Morph represents the frustrations of this community, the much-loved TV character can sympathise with disabled people who see their independence hindered by social obstructions. Restricted by inaccessible environments, bad attitudes and false perceptions, Morph and Evenbreak hope the new trail will help to promote an inclusive future.

Influence

Jane Hatton, CEO of Evenbreak and Enable columnist, says the organisation is proud to sponsor the event, which will influence positive change.

“Accessibility is key to our work at Evenbreak, and I know the whole team is looking forward to experiencing the trail this summer,” highlights Jane.

“This is a great opportunity for brands to demonstrate their commitment to inclusion.”

Over 50 colourful Morph sculptures line the route and greet families as they participate in the special event. Local artists have designed each unique statue to create a fun, vibrant, family-friendly day out. Schools across the country have also taken part and created mini-morph which is on display.

Whizz-Kidz, Britain’s leading charity for young wheelchair users, is supporting Morph’s Epic Art Adventure and will auction off the sculptures to raise funds after the campaign is finished. With a target of £500,000, the funds raised from the super-sized Morph’s will help the charity to do its vital work and provide mobility equipment to those in need.

The non-profit envisions a society where wheelchair users are unrestricted and independent and is using the event to educate the public.
