Chilling moment Alec Baldwin learns of Rust’s death

Heartbreaking new images show the moment Alec Baldwin was told that Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins had died.

Santa Fe sheriff’s office released footage showing Baldwin in an interview room with two deputies where one tells the actor, “I have some very unfortunate news to tell you. They did not.”

Baldwin immediately covers his mouth with his hand and says “No” before freezing in his chair as he processes the tragic information.

The deputy told Baldwin that the film director Joel Souza, who was also shot and injured, was still in hospital.

“I did not want you to hear it out here.” The deputy explains before asking if there was anything they could do for Baldwin. The actor replied that he wanted to call his wife before leaving the room with his hand on his forehead.

The Guardian reported that all images regarding their investigation were released due to ongoing media requests submitted to the sheriff’s office.

Other images include sheriff’s bodycam images showing the hectic moments after the shooting – including offices arriving at the scene and paramedics working on Hutchins and Souza.

The released images also show the first police interview where Baldwin can be seen against the sheriffs, “Someone put a live round in the gun.

“If that’s a bullet pulled from his shoulder, someone’s loaded a live round into the rifle I was holding.

“I rehearsed with a hot gun,” he said. “It should be cold or empty … This is the most horrible thing I’ve ever heard in my life.”

The footage also shows Baldwin taking the gun out of his holster in a close-up frame and aiming it twice prior to the tragic incident.

Additional images show Souza describing “a very loud slap” and the feeling that he was “kicked on the shoulder” before asking about Hutchins. The director said: “I was on my a ** and I look over it and see the cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with blood from her back.”

Souza went on to say that he witnessed the armor, Hannah Gutierrez Reed gave Baldwin the gun and told him it was “cold” or “clean”, insinuating that there were no live rounds in the weapon. He kept saying, “there was a bang that was louder than I had ever heard from a blank.”

Additional footage released by the department includes interviews with production crews who confirmed that Baldwin was the one holding the gun.

The release of the images comes after a recent report found that the film’s production company “know that firearms safety procedures were not followed on set” and “demonstrated common indifference to employee safety”.

The Guardian reported that the findings resulting from Rust Movie Productions were fined the maximum penalty allowed by state law in New Mexico equal to NZ $ 200,955

However, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza revealed that there were parts of the investigation that “remain excellent”, including FBI firearms and ballistic forensics.

Baldwin’s lawyer filed new court documents in March saying the star denies any responsibility for firing the deadly shot that killed Hutchins.

He claimed that every mistake that led to and including the moment Hutchins was shot dead was “carried out by someone else”.
