40 people in 27 states sick from Kratom-related salmonella outbreaks: CDC

Since February 20, 12 more people have become ill. Outbreak of Salmonella Linked to kratom products, 27 states, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Prevention Said in the update.

45% of patients need hospitalization. No deaths have been reported.

According to the CDC, the outbreak is related to Kratom products, but no common brand or supplier has been identified.

Kratom is a plant native to Southeast Asia that is used as a substitute for stimulants and opioids and is usually brewed, chewed, smoked or encapsulated in tea. Kratom is also known by the names Thang, Kakuam, Thom, Ketom, and Biak.

CDC Salmonella No contamination has been confirmed.
