At least two people were injured in an overnight Russian drone strike on Kiev, officials said.

About 20 Iranian-made drones were shot down over the city, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

It was the third night in a row of attacks on the capital, just hours after the end of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Lithuania.

Debris was reported in five districts and at least two people were taken to hospital with shrapnel injuries.

The Air Force reported that air defenses shot down two Russian Kalibr cruise missiles launched from a Black Sea vessel while information was still being collected on the impact of the Iskander-M ballistic missile launched from Crimea.

At the previous two-day NATO summit in Vilnius, Western aid to Ukraine was a high priority on the agenda.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky used the attendance to promote Ukraine’s membership of the alliance, which is said to be possible only “if the allies agree and the conditions are met.”

The lack of a firm deadline seemed to infuriate the Ukrainian president, who called it “absurd”. He has previously said he did not appear to be “ready” to invite Ukraine to join or join NATO.

He also expressed concern that Ukraine’s member states could be used as bargaining chips in post-war negotiations with Russia.

By the end of the summit, however, Mr Zelensky was more optimistic about how things progressed.

In a speech Wednesday night, he said he would return home with “good results for our country”, a stronger arsenal and a path to NATO membership.

“Doubts and ambiguities about whether Ukraine will join NATO have been cleared. He added that there are.

He also praised the broad security agreements signed with G7 members, saying the country has gained “concrete security” from the world’s leading democracies.

Speaking at the summit, US President Joe Biden also praised NATO’s cohesion, saying he underestimated Russian President Vladimir Putin when he launched his invasion of Ukraine.
