Could you tell us a little bit about your business?

NZ-based entrepreneur Tom Mackenzie has combined his love of football (soccer) with his engineering expertise to create the Telescopicgoal, the world’s first fully adjustable football goal.

A single Telescopicgoal can be adjusted to 35 different sizes and is designed to be easily and efficiently modified. It becomes a convenient wheelie bag when folded. Engineered to the highest quality, made from extremely strong aluminum that is 20 times stronger than plastic, the net hex is 4mm hexagonal UV resistant and has a long lifespan with a 2 year warranty. It has become a product.

Telescopicgoal has three interchangeable and upgradeable models T1, T2 and T3. The cheaper T1 uses aluminum stanchions and ground spikes, but the crossbar is fabric. Add a telescopic aluminum crossbar and you have the T2, but both of these models are designed specifically for soft ground. The T3 replaces ground spikes with stanchions for a full aluminum frame suitable for any surface.

What’s the story behind your business idea?

After a stint in the UK, Tom was surprised by the variety of information he received when it came to age-based target size recommendations while watching his son’s football progress. Finding a goal that could meet the fluctuating requirements of different governing bodies, including football, seemed like an impossible task.

Tom started developing adjustable products without sacrificing the portability or stability of the frame. Despite his extensive experience growing the startup he founded into a multi-million dollar business and listing on the NZX, his R&D took four years.

Fast forward, Telescopicgoal is available in NZ and the first overseas order to Germany has just been placed.
