Succession star Brian Cox says Hollywood strike could last until end of 2023, actors ‘may have to go to the brink’ | Art & Art News
Succession star Brian Cox told Sky News that a strike of Hollywood actors could be “very uncomfortable” and may not be resolved until the end of the year.
The industry is virtually closed the actors decided to join the existing strike by the writers.
This means that many hit TV shows and movies will have to stop being produced, and actors will stop promoting films they have already made.
Cox told Sky News: “It can be a very unpleasant situation. This situation can go on for quite a long time. They will push us to the brink, and we will probably have to go to the brink. would,’ he said.
“So it may not be resolved until near the end of the year.”
The strikes are based on concerns over wages, conditions and the use of artificial intelligence (AI), which Cox likened to the “boogeyman.”
Cox, 77, who is familiar to millions as media mogul Logan Roy, said the technology could lead to lower standards.
He said the strike was primarily to help Hollywood screenwriters, saying without them “we have nothing…that’s why we have shows like White Lotus and Succession.” It’s…” he said.
Writers have always impact of the last few monthsseeks concessions, such as raising the minimum wage.
The Screen Actors Guild’s decision to join them will mark the first time in 63 years that both have left at the same time.
An estimated 160,000 performers, many of them low-level actors, are expected to attend, but no end date has been set.
Cox said one of the main reasons actors are on strike is over the “leftover money” they receive when shows and movies are reruns.

This is of particular concern given the growth of streaming services, which have lower recurring fees than broadcast TV and allow many shows to be watched on repeat all the time.
Cox said the system was “rapidly dysfunctional” and these payments were essential to fund the actors’ medical care.
“The less money you have left, the less health insurance you pay,” Cox said.
He added, “The streaming service kind of said, ‘Oh, we’re doing really well in this space,’ so they kind of hurt themselves.”
“And when we call them and say, ‘What’s going to happen to the balance, what’s going to happen to the money?’ Everything shuts down and … you know, that doesn’t happen.”
With AI now able to mimic the looks and voices of actors (a theme taken to the extreme in a recent Black Mirror episode), stars could potentially have their likenesses used fraudulently. I am concerned about
That’s another reason they decided to withdraw.
Stars such as Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves are among those who have been the subject of widespread “deepfakes.”
“One of the problems is that we don’t really know enough about it,” Cox told Sky News.
“I don’t know to what extent [AI] can be operated. It’s the Boogeyman, it’s really the Boogeyman. “
He said it was “unacceptable” when a streaming service used AI to generate an entire show, saying “the original audio will never exist” and “the standard will quickly drop”.
