Senior players gain advantage in series against New Zealand: Pakistan’s Zaman Khan
Karachi [Pakistan]11 April (ANI): Pakistani up-and-comer Zaman Khan believes the return of many key senior players will keep his team in top form in the whiteball series against New Zealand .
Babbar Azam’s team will face New Zealand in a five-match T20I and five-match ODI series that begins in Lahore on 14 April.
Captain Babar Azam, key trios Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman and Harris Rauf will all take on the Kiwis after Pakistan rested after losing to Afghanistan in the recent T20I series. Star pace player Shaheen Afridi will also make an international comeback in his 10 whiteball match.
Zaman, who made his international debut in the Afghanistan series, believes the return of key players will make Pakistan a stronger team and hopes to improve their performance against New Zealand.
“The conditions were a little different against Afghanistan and the players were rookies. In the New Zealand series you will have home advantage and senior players. It increases the confidence of our players and makes it much easier to win matches,” Zaman was quoted as telling ICC.com.
Despite taking just two wickets in three games against Afghanistan, the 21-year-old Zaman qualified for New Zealand’s Asia tour with Pakistan’s 16-man T20 squad.
Zaman is happy to be in the mix with a number of front-line bowlers whether or not he has proven good enough to earn a spot in Pakistan’s XI during the series.
“Each bowler is different. Some are good with new balls, others are good with death. Management decides where they take me, but I’m always in the game when the chance arises. We will do our best to win “for Pakistan,” he pointed out.
“Before I played for Lahore Kalanders, life was hard. But after that, things got really good. They supported me a lot, they helped me learn a lot, we won two finals together, hopefully I will continue to learn in the future.
