Power outage hits Christchurch hospital
A massive power outage at Christchurch Hospital affected all systems tonight.
Te Whatu Ora – Waitaha Canterbury’s Facebook page announced that the blackout affected power, IT and phone systems.
“Seek alternative treatment unless it’s an emergency,” the post said.
Te Whatu Ora also recommended contacting Healthline for non-urgent care and advice.
“Surgery is open 24 hours a day and can only be seen by those with urgent health needs,” the Facebook post said.
“If it’s not an emergency, we’ll have to wait to see a doctor.”
The hospital said it will update details soon.
Power company Orion told RNZ that the issue was an internal matter and that an electrician was now on site.
Christchurch hit highs of nearly 34 degrees today, but it’s unclear if the heat is a factor in the blackouts.
