Phillips, Abhishek’s 50-man cameo from Samad helps SRH take thrilling win over RR
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India]May 7 (ANI): Top knocks from Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi followed by intense cameos from Glenn Phillips and Abdul Samad saw Sunrisers Hyderabad take on the Rajasthan Royals at IPL 2023 in Jaipur on Sunday. (RR) won the match by four wickets.
With this victory, SRH moved up to ninth place with 4 wins, 6 losses and 8 points. RR has 5 wins, 6 losses and 10 points, placing them in 4th place.
Abhishek Sharma got off to a solid start with 55 of 34 runs and Glenn Phillips’ game-changing cameo of 25 off just 7 balls gave SRH their biggest win of the season so far.
Yuzvendra Chahal was RR’s bowler’s pick, conceding 29 runs and taking 4 wickets. Kuldip Yadav and R Ashwin each took one scalp of her.
Chasing the best targets in Jaipur, SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Ammolpreet Singh opened a steady innings with a partnership of 50 runs on 34 balls. However, they lost the first wicket in the power play final. Chahal dismissed his Anmolpreet on 33 of 25 balls. SRH was 51/1 with 5.5 overs.
SRH was 52/1 after the power play ended. Rahul Tripathi (1/1 balls) and Abhishek Sharma (18/10 balls) were undefeated.
Abhishek then formed a 50-run partnership with Rahul Tripathi in 36 balls to put SRH’s 100-run mark on the scoreboard with 11.3 overs.
Abhishek brought in 50 on 33 balls but was quickly dismissed by Ashwin after 13 overs. He scored 55 off 34 balls consisting of five fours and two sixes. SRH was 12.4 overs and he was 116/2.
Heinrich Klaasen arrived at Creese and gave hope to SRH fans with a clean, quick strike. However, he became Chahal’s second casualty, scoring 26 off 12 balls. SRH was 157/3 at 15.5 overs.
In the 18th over, Chahal pushed SRH into the backseat when he picked two wickets. Rahul Tripathi was sent off on 47 of his 29 pitches and Aiden Markram was sent off on 6 of his 5 pitches. SRH had him 17.5 overs and he sank to 174/5 with probably a lot left for the rest of the lineup to hit in the final overs. Chahal also took four wickets haul, making him the league’s all-time leading wicket-taker.
However, the match was completely turned upside down in the penultimate over when Glenn Phillips struck out three consecutive 6s and 4s on Kuldip Yadav’s bowling. However, the bowlers did not let the New Zealand batsmen finish the game, sending them off on 25 of 7 pitches. SRH was 18.5 overs and he was 196/6.
In the final over, SRH needed 17 runs. It oversaw a lot of drama as RR won the match after Abdul Samad was caught on the last ball. Hit 6 with the ball.
Previously, Choose to Bat, the RR plan was clear as it started at the perimeter. Yashasvi Jaiswal has improved from the previous game and was hitting his limits every turn. Jos Buttler also joined him and from 26 balls he added a 50-run partnership.
Marco Jansen gave SRH a wicket when he scored a breakthrough for Yashasvi Jaiswal at short third man. Jaiswal scored 35 of his 18 balls.
After the power play the RR was 70/1, Sanju Samson 11 off 7 and Jos Buttler 18 off 17 balls.
The RR batsman struck Mayank Markande in nine overs and scored 21 runs on three sixes.
Rajasthan made 100 runs in just 9.4 overs. Butler 37 off 26 balls, Samson 28 off 16 balls.
Butler and Samson gave no chance to the bowlers, making a partnership of 50 runs on 29 balls.
Butler, who missed the mark in the previous game, bounced back by breaking half a century off 32 balls in 11.4 overs.
The SRH bowlers looked helpless as they had no answer to Rajasthan’s explosive blows. RR he had 14.2 overs and he marked 150 runs.
Samson took 50 off 33 pitches in 18 overs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Marco Jansen were the only bowlers to have one breakthrough.
As in the first match of the day, Butler also failed to record his century.
Rajasthan collected 17 runs in the final over to score the best target in Jaipur.
