One person airlifted to hospital after crash on SH1 in Tararua

A person has been airlifted to hospital in a serious condition after being involved in a crash on State Highway 1 in Tararua early on Sunday morning.
Emergency services were alerted to the single-vehicle crash on SH1 between Waiaruhe Rd and Deacons Rd at 12.30am, a police spokesperson said.
The car had rolled near the overbridge of Hihitahi Reserve and the driver was reported to have serious injuries, the spokesperson said.
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said ambulance officers assessed, treated and airlifted one patient in a serious condition to Palmerston North Hospital.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand sent two crews from Wairouru and one crew from Taihape to the scene. Firefighters had to free the occupant from the car, a spokesperson said.
