Nine new community-acquired cases of monkeypox confirmed in New Zealand
WELLINGTON, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) — New Zealand confirmed nine new community-acquired cases of monkeypox on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 20.
A Health Ministry statement said there were seven new cases in Auckland and two in Wellington.
All new cases were identified as community-acquired cases in which the disease was spread within New Zealand, it said.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 20, both active and recovering. Nine of the cases were acquired abroad and 11 were identified as community-acquired, the ministry said, adding that the general risk remained very low.
