Newly released US government photos show key moments inside the White House in 2011 that led to Osama bin Laden’s death.
The image shows top officials shaking hands after learning that bin Laden founded it. al Qaeda and mastermind 9/11 attack, was shot dead by a team of US Navy SEALs.they also show President Barack Obama I called other world leaders to tell them what had happened.
The photo was obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request filed by The Washington Post with the Obama Presidential Library.
The US news service has obtained over 900 images taken by the official White House photographer on May 1, 2011.
At about 4:00 p.m., Obama was in the Situation Room conference room with the national security team when he heard Admiral William McRaven, who was leading the operation from Afghanistan.
The president watched a live video feed of the raid in a small waiting room and said, “I need to see this” before leaving the conference room.
Air Force Brigadier General Brad Webb offered him a seat in the dressing room, but Obama said, “Sit down,” pulling up a hard-backed chair.
Obama’s national security team quickly broke into the room with him to watch the live video feed.
A few minutes later, Obama and his team were told, “Geronimo ID’d… Geronimo EKIA.”
Geronimo is bin Laden’s codename, and “EKIA” stands for “Fallen Enemies”.
After hearing those words, Obama said, “We got him.”
The CIA and US military were later criticized for using the Apache leader’s name as the codename for the 9/11 mastermind.
The national security team was then reconvened in the Situation Room boardroom, where Admiral McRaven told them he had seen a dead body that looked like bin Laden.
He asked a 6-foot-2-inch seal to lie next to the corpse and make sure it matched the al-Qaeda leader’s 6-foot-4-inch height.

That night, having decided to announce bin Laden’s death, President Obama returned to the White House to prepare for his speech.
Obama called former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton to inform them of the success of the raid.
he also called the British prime minister David Cameron President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan.

That night, at about 10:30 p.m. local time, White House staff were making changes to the president’s remarks before his televised address a little over an hour later.
The president was reported to have said in an optimistic tone that “if America really sticks to something”, it can “achieve really big things.”

At approximately 11:42 p.m. local time, Obama delivered a televised address that was broadcast around the world.
“Good evening. Tonight I can report to the American people and the world that the United States has conducted an operation to kill Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and the terrorists responsible for the murder of thousands. Innocent men, women and children.”
