Motorcycle driver dies in Auckland hospital after failing to stop police
A motorbike driver has died after he collided with a parked car after failing to stop police.
On Thursday, Inspector Peter Raines said Oakland police had signaled a stop on Campbell Road on One Tree Hill because the bike was believed to have been stolen.
Raines said the rider did not stop and no chase was initiated.
Some time later, a car accident was called to the police, who discovered that a motorcycle rider had hit a car parked on Rawhiti Street.
Ryder is in critical condition and has been taken to Auckland City Hospital.
On Friday, police confirmed Ryder died in hospital Thursday afternoon.
“We extend our condolences to the family during this difficult time,” police said in a statement.
“Police investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
“As previously communicated, it is standard procedure in such circumstances to notify the Independent Police Action Service of the incident.”
