Media Advisory: National Police Dog and Sniffer Dog Championships End Today
The national title holders will be revealed when the 49th Annual Police and Detector Dog Championships conclude this afternoon with an award ceremony in Trentham.
The competition has been fierce across three categories since Monday for 21 operational dog teams from NZ Police, Customs and Corrections, NZ Armed Forces and Air Security, selected after regional trials.
Eleven operational teams from Tamaki Makaulau, Hamilton, Rotorua, Hawke’s Bay, Whanganui, Wellington, Blenheim and Christchurch will participate in the Police Patrol Dog competition.
There are also six drug-sniffing dog teams, two from the police (Northland and Tamaki Makaulau) and two from Customs and Corrections.
NZ Defense’s two explosives-sniffing dog teams and Aviation Security’s two teams also compete in their respective categories.
Members of the press will be invited to an awards ceremony at the Police Dog Training Center on Dante Road, Trentham today at 3pm. Please arrive at 2:45pm and check in at: media@police.govt.nz
