IT outage disrupts hospitals in Wellington area, Wairarapa
Appointments and procedures have been delayed or canceled at hospitals in the Wellington area and Wairarapa due to extensive technical failures.
The IT outage affected Te Watu Ora Capital, Coast and Hut Valley and Wairarapa on Thursday morning.
Te Watu Ora said the outage was caused by an internal cooling infrastructure failure, causing a number of servers to overheat and shut down.
The application was automatically switched to a working server, but the increased load caused disruptions and delays in clinical and support systems.
The problem was confirmed around 4:00 a.m.
The cooling issue has been resolved and service is being restored, but the system is running slower than usual and delays to patients may still occur, he said.
“There are no external causes or influences contributing to this outage.
“If a patient needs to be deferred, it will be rescheduled to the next available opportunity. We are working hard to keep it to a minimum. “
