Fiji urges Chinese officials to stop cooperating with Fijian police
Suva [Fiji]Jan. 27 (ANI): There is no need for Chinese national security personnel to continue to cooperate with Fijian police because the systems are different, the Fiji Times reported, citing Prime Minister Sitibuni Labuka.
“We don’t need to continue. Our systems are different,” the Fiji prime minister said, referring to a memorandum of understanding signed by Fiji and China in 2011. , according to the Fiji Times.
The MoU, which was tied up in 2011, has provided Fijian police officers with training in China and Chinese police officers in Fiji on a 3- to 6-month placement programme.
In September 2021, police cooperation efforts between the two countries reached new heights following the appointment of a Fiji-based Chinese Police Liaison Officer.
