Police last week named an Australian man who died trying to save a drowning child in Glenorchy.

He was Jonathan Jordan Young, 35, from New South Wales.

A spokeswoman said Young got himself into trouble on Thursday while helping a child on Lake Wakatipu.

“Police thoughts are with Mr Young’s family and friends.”

Death is sent to the coroner.

It was the second death in the area in less than a week.

Leroy Kaaho, 48, of Wanaka, also known as Linkin Kisling, died on January 13 after going to the rescue of his surviving 10-year-old son.
